MDF amazing creation

By now, you are probably aware of the many benefits that MDF has to offer. Whether you are kitting out your home with new skirting and architraves or installing new window boards or door lining, there is plenty of choice when it comes to finishes and plenty of benefits to behold. But aside from standard interior installations, MDF can be used to create some weird and wonderful things for you and others to enjoy.

Disclaimer: we only manufacture the profiles and products as outlined on our website and brochures and unfortunately cannot supply a sleek new MDF drinks cart to the public, but we will gladly be a source of inspiration for you to get your hands on our favourite building material and make something unique and fantastic!

Take a look at some of these creative takes on MDF, which one would you be tempted by?

1. Swiss Embassy Abu Dhabi - Decorative Panelling

Love a statement feature wall? Take a look at this intricately designed MDF panelling featured in the Swiss Embassy, Abu Dhabi. Not only is this feature aesthetically intriguing, it also serves as shelf space for books. The lattice design allows for light to pass through, rather introducing a harsh partition between rooms. According to the ArchiExpo website, the designer cut the MDF panels using a customized pattern to look like snow crystals, curving the panels to meet the customer’s requirements. We think it’s pretty impressive!

2. Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK)

Another great example of manipulating MDF to create something visually wonderful is obvious with this honeycomb-inspired wall found in the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Architecture students at the university created this piece which works as a display stand for art exhibitions. You can recognise the attention to detail in this design as every ‘cell’ within the structure has been cut and angled specifically to emphasise specific objects behind the wall. A structure design like this definitely looks great from every angle.

From aesthetically pleasing structures to something more whacky and fun, this TV unit is a great example of how versatile a material MDF really is. Check out this larger than life Nintendo Switch inspired unit perfect for the children’s play space – movie and gaming nights just got a whole lot more fun!

The original poster (via Instagram) confirms he didn’t build the piece but was asked to bring it to life with colour matched paint, and we think he has done a fantastic job. For a job like this, the details really bring it to life, making it an instantly recognisable design for all ages.

4. The Camouflage House

A personal favourite of ours, this stunning ‘Camouflage House’ is situated on Green Lake, USA, hidden among trees and winding across the landscape with its unique, narrow design.

The goal for this build was to have it fit seamlessly within its surroundings, achieved by layered, geometric design made up of both wall and glass panels (MDF and cedar) placed at random. The external cladding has been carefully designed to fit the texture and colourways of the surrounding leaves that frame the building. It’s modern, it’s energy efficient, and it ties in beautifully with its natural surroundings. A perfect example of an amazing creation using MDF.

Making a statement with furniture is a fun and creative way to spruce up a room but it is even more appealing when it is practical and something everyone can enjoy. If your home doesn’t already feature a sleek, minimalistic drinks trolley, you may be wondering why you hadn’t thought of investing in one a long time ago.

The great thing about drinks trolleys is they can be simple in design but still add great aesthetic to a room. Their simple design means they are an enjoyable and easy DIY job too. With the addition of some wheels, handles and paint, you’ll have your very own bespoke cart that can be used indoors and out. If you’re not busy entertaining friends and family to weekend drinks, this cart can double up to be a convenient display for breakfast foods, baking ingredients or games.
